FAQ

How do I get to the Blue Grotto ?
There are two ways of reaching the entrance to the Blue Grotto: by sea from the port of Capri or by bus from the center of Anacapri.
Is the Blue Grotto always open?
No, to visit the Blue Grotto, sea and weather conditions must be calm. The cave entrance is only about on meter high, so if there are waves it is dangerous to pass through. When the sea and weather conditions are good, the Blue Grotto is open each day from 9 am to 5 pm (from April through October). In the winter months, the grotto is only open in the morning.
How can I find out if the Blue Grotto is open or closed each day?
On our Blue Grotto page, there is an indicator which is updated in real time to show if the grotto is open or closed. Unfortunately, it is not possible to know ahead of time if the grotto will be open. Regardless, when there are high winds and waves, you can be sure that the grotto is closed.
How much does a ticket to the Blue Grotto cost?
Tickets cost EUR 14, with discounts for children.
dt>How do visit the Blue Grotto?
If you arrive by foot, you will have to wait in the line on the staircase down to the cave mouth to board the small rowboats that can carry just 4 passengers each. If you arrive by sea, you must wait until a row boat comes to pick you up from your boat and take you into the cave. Tickets are paid near the cave entrance at the floating ticket office.
How long does the visit last?
The visit lasts about 5 minutes, so savor every moment!
Can you swim in the Blue Grotto?
No, it is illegal to swim in the Blue Grotto and can be dangerous. That said, many visitors dive into the cave in the late afternoon after it is closed to the public.
How long does the queue last?
On certain days in July and August, the it can take up to 2 hours to enter the cave.
Is there a way to skip the line to enter the Grotto?
To avoid the long queue (which can last up to two ours), the best option is to head to the grotto first thing in the morning so you are already at the cave entrance when the row boats begin their service. Generally, if you are on a private boat tour, your wait will be shorter than those on a large group tour.
When is the best time of day to see the light in the Grotto?
The light is most intense at high noon, and least intense on cloudy days.
Can I buy a ticket online or reserve a time?
No, you can only purchase your transfer from Marina Grande to the Grotto ahead of time. There is no way to reserve or purchase your ticket to enter the Blue Grotto in advance.
