Oebalus Guided tours
Just as Oebalus, Virgil's Aeneid's hero and prince of the Island of Capri who was unsatisfied of the narrow limits of his reign, the members of the association that takes its name from him are unsatisfied of the restricted way-of-thinking that can be seen in much part of the life on the island.
Since its foundation in 1992, the Cultural Association Oebalus, directs its activities in two directions, according with its istitutional purposes, it contributes to examine carefully some local history subjects and some subjects which can help the civil and cultural growth. The local history subjects are examined both through the organisation of tours guided by experts of nature and history of the island and conferences about the same themes, well inserted in the national scene such as Capri and Islam, Etics and religion in Capri, The volcanic risk in the Gulf of Naples and so on. Among the purposes of the Oebalus Association there is the knowledge and repair of the island's historical, archeological and naturalistic heritage by a systematic and scientific analysis of its aspects.
As concerning the themes which can help the cultural growth of the community, the Association is particularly concerned about them: The War, The Flexibilty in labour, the Jewish question are only some of the themes through which can be spread a laical and scientific approach to the actual situation.
The Cultural Association Oebalus is also publisher: it has already published the papers of the 2003 and 2004 conferences about Capri Conoscere Capri 1 and Conoscere Capri 2 and more other books about local history are in printing.
