FAQ

Booking a boat tour of Capri

I want to take a boat tour around the island of Capri...what are my options?
There are a number of options for taking a boat tour around Capri:
  1. Book a private boat with a skipper
  2. Rent a boat without a skipper
  3. Join a group tour departing from Capri
  4. Join a group tour departing from Sorrento or Positano
How much does a boat tour around Capri cost?
  • Boat charter with skipper: from €150 for two hours
  • Boat rental without skipper: from €70 for two hours
  • Shared group tours from Capri: from EUR 17
  • Shared group tours from Sorrento and Positano: from EUR 90
How many hours does a boat tour around Capri take?
It takes at least 2 hours to sail around the coast of Capri. If you want to stop to visit the Blue Grotto and have time for a swim, book at least 3 hours.
I don't have a boating license. Can I rent a boat on Capri without a skipper?
You do not need a boating license to rent a smaller boat online. We do recommend that you have some previous experience at sea, however.
There are just two of us. If I rent a boat that fits up to 7 passengers, will there be other people on board?
No, if you book a private boat tour, you will be the only passengers on the boat, regardless of the capacity.
Are there drinks and snacks on board?
Yes, private boat tours include water and other beverages. Group tours may or may not include refreshments.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, especially from June to September it's a good idea to book in advance so you have more options for the date, time, and type of boat.

Visiting the Blue Grotto

How do I visit the Blue Grotto with a private boat or tour?
If the Blue Grotto is open, boat tours will stop by the entrance to the cave. Here, you will have to wait your turn and transfer to one of the small authorized rowboats, purchase a ticket, and enter the cave.
How long do you stay inside the Blue Grotto?
The wait time to enter can easily be an hour, but you will only spend about 5 minutes inside the cave.
How can I find out in advance if the Blue Grotto is open or closed?
On our Blue Grotto page, you can check the red and green dots to see if the grotto is open or closed. Unfortunately, there is no way to predict if the grotto will be open in advance. In case of high winds and rough seas, the grotto will be closed.
Are tickets to enter the Blue Grotto included in the tour price?
No, Blue Grotto tickets are never included in any tour, and must be paid for in cash at the entrance to the grotto.
Can you swim in the Blue Grotto?
No, it is forbidden to swim in the Blue Grotto, though many enter the cave after 5 pm when the cave closes to the public...or by tipping their rowboat skipper a significant amount.
