The tiny, jewelled bell is one of the most iconic symbols of the Island of Capri, said to bring joy and fortune to those who wear it.
According to island tradition, legend holds that Saint Michael led a local shepherd to his lost lamb by sounding a tiny bell, the ringing of which the boy was able to follow.
As a continuation of this tradition, the Island of Capri donated a bronze bell to President Roosevelt near the end of the Second World War as a celebration of victory. This masterpiece of island craftmenship is on display still today at the Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in New York.
