Shopping in Capri and a Swim at Marina Piccola

The best of Capri's shopping and seaside, with a bit of history and culture thrown in!
Shopping in Capri and a Swim at Marina Piccola

On the Island of Capri, if you love shopping and designer labels, you won't be disappointed. Almost every major fashion house has a boutique here, and shops sell both classic lines and new designers. In the summer, the fall and winter lines are already available to customers.

Just beyond the Piazzetta, glittering window displays are filled with custom designed jewelry and rare gems. Just pass under the archway of the Bar Tiberio and enter into a shopping paradise, with the pages of Vogue, Glamour, and Vanity Fair reproduced in each shop you pass. From the most luxurious lingerie, to the coolest shoes, to the season's "it" bag, here you'll find all of the latest fashions and trends!

The most fashionable nightclubs on the island are also along this stretch of road, including the "Anema e Core", behind a white door near the Hotel La Palma.

Once you reach the Grand Hotel Quisisana, the island's most historic hotel, continue left along Via Camerelle to continue your shopping excursion.

Opposite the Quisisana, the '"Canfora" workshop crafts custom Capri sandals for clients, as it has been doing since the 1950's when Jackie Kennedy and Brigitte Bardot were among the most faithful customers. Only with Canfora sandals on your feet can you claim to have truly "walked" the streets of Capri!

Continue to the end of Via Camerelle, where to the left there is the climb up to the Tragara scenic overlook. Instead, continue straight along the lane until you reach the Hotel La Floridiana. Here, turn right and then left.
In just a few moments, you will have reached the lane which leads to the Charterhouse of San Giacomo, dating from 1300. Don't miss the Chiostro Grande, the Chiostro Piccolo, the Diefenbach Museum, the temporary art exhibits, and the scenic garden where the monks once grew flowers and aromatic herbs from which they would extract the essences used in their perfumes.

Your next stop is the Gardens of Augustus, scenic terrances perched directly over the sea near the Charterhouse.

Along the road to the gardens, stop at the perfume workshop of "Capri di Carthusia" where you can both see how perfume is made and purchase your favorite scents.

At the Gardens of Augustus, take your time and visit all the picturesque terraces with breathtaking views over the Faraglioni rock formations, the Marina Piccola Bay, and the incredible Via Krupp, which seems to cling precariously to the cliffside.

From the Gardens of Augustus, you can reach the Marina Piccola beach by walking down Via Krupp, an unforgettable walk along the hairpin turns snaking down the rocky cliff until reaching the sea. You can stop for a dip at the Bagni di Torre Saracena, at the foot of Via Krupp, or continue to Marina Piccola, where there are free public beaches, excellent restaurants, and a number of beach clubs including La Canzone del Mare, i Bagni Internazionali, and i Bagni da Gioia.

To return to the Piazzetta, there are public buses which depart about every 15 minutes or taxis. In the most busy times during the day, the buses and taxis may be crowded, so you can also opt to climb back up Via Krupp, especially while the sun sets...the gorgeous view will make up for the tough climb!
