Pompeii and Vesuvius Guided Tour, entrances + Lunch

The meeting point in central Naples was easy to locate, although spotting our minibus proved a little tricky due to the small sign the driver was holding. Once aboard, we were asked to take a seat, but beyond that, there was no communication at all - not even a brief explanation of what to expect. After some driving, we stopped at a junction, asked to disembark, and follow a man to a nearby hotel where we took a lift down to sea level. We were then left standing in a tunnel for nearly two hours in heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. Of course, the company can’t control the weather, but customer experience is very much within their remit. During that long wait, many of us were left in the dark, trying to contact the company or our tour operators to find out what was going on. Eventually, a representative arrived and informed us that the tour had been cancelled. Transport was arranged for those returning to Naples (we chose to stay in Sorrento), and refunds were issued promptly, which we appreciated. Our three-star rating isn’t because the trip was cancelled - these things happen - but rather due to the lack of information and poor handling of the situation on the day.

Well organised trip. Amazing views (sea, rock formations, caves). During our 4 hours stay at Capri, we managed to do Monte Solario, Augustus Gardens and Via Krupp.

A fascinating experience not to be missed. This tour proved to be a good balance of guided tour around Pompeii with an experienced guide (2hrs), walking up the final stretch of the Vesuvius peak and a pleasant relaxing lunch. Fairly strenuous walking up Vesuvius on a gravel path - note the walk is longer than the quoted height ascended and took 1hr to 1.5hrs there and back. Be prepared for the heat when walking Pompeii in sunny weather and wear good shoes up Vesuvius!
